    Supporting Lafayette Education Foundation

Contributions made to LEF ensure that children have a better chance of building a successful future through education, leading to a stronger community. LEF programs are making a positive impact in the success of Lafayette Parish students, reflected in these positive results over the past year:

    • Over 8,000 K-3 students are being given a better chance at improving reading scores.  9/15 'at risk' schools report 91-97% of students are now reading ON or ABOVE grade level.  3/15 schools report 89% on level.  The achievement gap  is closing in reading K-3!
    • Plantation Elementary became known as the 'School of Leadership' after being chosen to receive funds for a pilot model grant, Leader in Me.  The goal of Leader in Me is to empower elementary students to become leaders, taking responsibility for their education and their lives, in an effort to move past the existing barriers which have potentially limited their success. This leadership model is based on principles from Stephen Covey's '7 Habits', which embeds a school culture with leadership skills  needed for the 21st century.  LEF is currently assisting three other schools with funding for Leader in Me.
    • 'Parent-Student Literacy Nights' were held at elementary schools engaging parent involvement in student learning.  Hundreds of parents attended.
    • Bullying Prevention and grants fostering positive school environments have been implemented at Comeaux High School, L J Alleman Middle and Alice Boucher Elementary School.

Additionally, LEF's current focus is to assist and provide support to Lafayette Parish School System in the following ways:

    • increase the percent of students reading on or above grade level by 3rd grade
    • promote positive school environments where all students feel accepted and safe
    • increase the percentage of high school graduates

Continuous charitable support through LEF Friends, LEF Business Friends, Grant Partnerships, LEF Teacher Awards, LEF ReProm, Copy & Camera’s Drive for Education, and the LEF Endowment is imperative to ensure that these important programs will be strengthened and can further grow to meet the needs of Lafayette Parish students and teachers.

We appreciate your support of our mission “to promote and support excellence in education.”
